Former South African fast bowler Dale Steyn has tagged India’s Mohammad Shami as the best bowler in the world based on current form. During a Q&A session via his Twitter account, Steyn further revealed that his compatriot AB de Villiers is still his favourite batsman going around.

He may have called time on his Test career earlier this year, but the legendary speedster is still one of the most adored cricketers in the world. And as the 36-year-old invited his followers over for a brief Q&A session via Twitter, hundreds poured in with questions ranging from cricket to cinema and even to spicy Indian food!

Steyn made three things very clear though. He hailed Shami — who returned with match figures of seven for 58 in India’s innings-and-130-run win over Bangladesh in the first of two Tests at Indore — as the best in the business right now. With 31 wickets, Shami is the third highest wicket-taker in Test cricket this year and is subsequently also the highest wicket-taking Indian bowler in this calendar year.

Furthermore, he added that AB de Villiers — who had also called the curtains on his international career and has been playing in various T20 leagues around the world — continues to be his favourite among the modern era. Steyn also reckons Jacques Kallis — another legendary Protea — as the best batsman he has ever seen in the game.

Here are some excerpts from Steyn's Q&A session with his fans earlier today:
