WIW vs INDW | Jemimah Rodrigues, Veda Krishnamurthy and Anuja Patil script whitewash for India women
A century-stand between Jemimah Rodrigues and Veda Krishnamurthy, followed by a devastating spell of two for three from her three overs by Anuja Patil saw India Women complete a 5-0 whitewash against West Indies. Chasing 135, the hosts were restricted to 73 for seven from their 20 overs.
Ever since the loss in the opening match of the tour — the first of three ODIs — the Indian women have become a relentless thorn in the flesh of the hosts. Having turned around the ODI series 2-1, they continued their winning streak in T20Is overall by winning all five in rather convincing fashion.
Choosing to bat, India lost both openers - Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana - inside 3.1 overs. With the visitors at 17 for two, Veda and Jemimah got together and put on 117 runs in the remaining 16.4 overs. Jemimah hit a 56-ball 50, with three boundaries, before being dismissed in the penultimate ball of the innings. Veda hit one more boundary than her partner on her way to a 48-ball 57, as India put up a more-than-decent total of 134 for four.
The sluggish nature of the pitch was put into context when West Indies came out to bat later. Anuja removed two top-order batsmen early, leaving the hosts tottering at 13 for two, but unlike India, there was no comeback from there. Kyshona Knight top-scored with a 39-ball 22, while Shemaine Campbell’s strike rate of 82.6 during her 23-ball stay at the crease being the best they managed throughout the innings. For India, Radha Yadav, Poonam Yadav, Pooja Vastrakar, and Harleen Deol picked up a wicket each to stem the flow of runs.
