He is here in the change room, come say hello! - Virat Kohli jokes with reporter over question on MS Dhoni
On being asked whether he would visit MS Dhoni in Ranchi, Virat Kohli cheekily replied that he is present in the dressing room and having a great time with the boys. Amidst the rumoUrs of Dhoni's retirement, Kohli swiftly clarified the great relationship the team shares with the former skipper.
Post India's victory over South Africa in Ranchi, captain cool MS Dhoni was seen in the Indian dressing room enjoying the victory with the boys. In the post-match press conference when Kohli was asked by a reporter whether he would visit Dhoni's house since he is in Ranchi, he replied, "He is here in the change room, come say Hello!" and everyone burst into laughter.
There were rumours surfacing that Dhoni was going to announce his retirement anytime after the World Cup and the fact that he told BCCI that he was not available for two months after the World Cup made that rumour more strong to believe. But as Kohli mentioned before, there was a great understanding between Dhoni and the rest of the Indian team and he has all the respect that he deserves from the team.
With Rishab Pant showing poor form with the bat and behind the sticks, it seems that the road is clear for Dhoni to make a comeback in the limited-overs team for the first time after the World Cup. Only time will tell whether Dhoni sees himself in the reckoning for the T20 World Cup next year in Australia.
But one thing is for certain that the rumours of a rift between him and the team are discarded by Kohli in emphatic style. BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has said that he himself will have a chat with MS Dhoni to discuss his future plans.
