Will do what's best for Indian cricket, states Sourav Ganguly
Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly, the cornerstone of revolution in Indian cricket, officially assumed the office of the president of BCCI today and promised to do whatever is best for Indian cricket. He also pledged full support to Virat Kohli and revealed that he'll have a discussion with him.
It is after a long duration of 65 years that an Indian captain has headed the governing body and it is Sourav Ganguly who has come to the rescue of the board in a difficult time. His assumption of office also means an end to the tenure of Committee of Administrators, which was appointed by the honourable Supreme Court.
It’s quite interesting that Ganguly had assumed the Indian team’s captaincy in the aftermath of a match-fixing scandal and it's the exact situation now, as he takes on the reigns of the BCCI in a rather dark time for the board. Ganguly acknowledged the fact and promised a clean and dedicated administration.
“I'll do it the way I know, with no compromise on credibility and corruption. That's the way I led India. Things need to be brought back in place, reforms need to be done, huge amounts of money need to be paid to state associations.
"We don't know what's happened in the past three years, we weren't part of it , there were no AGMs or working committee meetings. We'll take note of everything and do what's best for Indian cricket,” the former skipper told ESPN Cricinfo.
Ganguly also acknowledged Indian skipper Virat Kohli’s ambitious plans for India and pledged full support from the administration to him as he embarks on a journey to glory along with his team.
"He wants to make this team the best in the world… We have to sit with him and see what he wants. We'll support him in every way."
