India could play their first D/N test against Bangladesh
History might be created as India may play a day-and-night test against Bangladesh in their two-match test series. BCCI Preseident Sourav ganguly has always favored the prospect of India playing a D/N test and thus he will have a chat with the team management and with other office bearers.
BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has always backed India to play D/N tests. He believes that playing with the pink ball is imperative for India as other teams have also started playing and India too must evolve with time. However the decision will not be imposed on the team. The captain and the team management's decision will carry some amount of weightage and further discussions will take place.
India will play Bangladesh in a two-match test series beginning on November 14, the first of which will be in Indore and the second will be in Kolkata on November 22. With Ganguly at the helm, according to the sources from the Indian Express, there is a 50-50 chance that one of these two tests might be a pink-ball Test.
India were set to play a pink-ball test first against the West Indies at home and then against Australia at Adelaide. But the players were reluctant. After becoming the chairman of the Cricket Association of Bengal Ganguly was clear about introduing pink ball cricket at least on the local level as the audiences for the longest form are getting reduced day by day.
“Let’s see. Before talking to the team management, this needs the approval of the BCCI members. But I always believe that’s the way forward in Test cricket. Games are being played before empty stands,” said Ganguly last week.
As the pink SG ball was used in domestic tournaments, it did not receive a positive feedback from the domestic players. BCCI general manager Saba karim stated that BCCI is in constant contact with the manufacturer to improve the condition of the ball. Only time will tell whether India will play their first D/N test when bangladesh give a visit in mid-November.
