Andrew Strauss will be returning to the England and Wales Cricket Board in the capacity of cricket committee chairman and will be asked to develop the country’s cricketers at all the age levels. He has previously served as the director of cricket but had resigned last year citing personal reasons.

English cricketing legend Andrew Strauss will mark his return in cricketing management after the ECB announced him as their latest cricket committee chairman. The 42-year-old was recently knighted by former Prime Minister Theresa May for his services to the game both on and off the field.

Strauss represented the country in more than 230 internationals across all the three formats of the game, having served as a captain in each of those three. His most memorable achievement remains leading England to back-to-back Ashes win in 2009 and 2010/11, becoming the first England captain in the process to win a Test Down Under in 24 years. He was also the skipper for the 2011 ICC World Cup.

After his retirement in 2012, he was named England’s first ever director of cricket. He served in the role for three years before stepping down last year and being succeeded by Ashley Giles, after his wife encountered breast councer, which ultimately led to her demise. He now runs a  foundation in her name to help cancer patients around the globe.

"The ECB have been a vital source of support over an extremely difficult year. It's a real pleasure to return... I'm extremely passionate about developing and growing cricket in England and Wales," the TOI reported Strauss as saying to BCC.

He had set the foundation for the team in ODI cricket by heralding the next generation of cricketers and giving them opportunities which ultimately ended up winning the World Cup. He was also responsible for sacking coach Peter Moore in his tenure as director, appointing Trevor Bayliss as replacement who was the mastermind behind the country’s maiden global triumph.

"I've seen first-hand how this summer of cricket has inspired more people to fall in love with the sport and I can't wait to help build on its success," Strauss added.
