South African pacer Lungi Ngidi, who is all set to feature in the first Test against India next month, has thanked the 'influential' Dale Steyn and has stated that the 36-year-old has the perfect blueprint for a fast bowler. Ngidi also said that he is fully fit and feels that he's in good rhythm.

Lungi Ngidi, who unfortunately missed the latter half of the World Cup due to a recurring hamstring injury, is now fully fit once again and has been playing for the South Africa 'A' team against India 'A' as preparation for the three Tests that will commence from October 2. Ngidi made his debut against India in early 2018 but constant injuries have meant that the pacer has only played a total of four Test matches till date.

But now, after thorough recovery and rehabilitation, the 23-year-old is back on the field once again in hope of bowling his side to victory in the forthcoming Test series against India.

“The hamstring injury was caused maybe because I was trying to bowl too fast. Missing the latter half of the World Cup was disappointing, but injuries are a part of life," Ngidi was quoted as saying by Sportstar.

"I went straight to my recovery routine, and now I’m feeling very fit. I’ve done a lot of training to recover from the injury. I’m happy with the way I’m bowling, and I want to keep the rhythm going,” he added.

Ngidi also heaped praise on Dale Steyn, a pioneer of Indian conditions, who has been helping the 23-year-old by advising him about various aspects of bowling. Incidentally, it was due to the injury to Steyn in 2018 which made South Africa draft Ngidi in the squad and now, a year later, the tall quick once again finds himself in a situation to step into the shoes of Steyn, albeit different circumstances.

"Steyn has the perfect blue print for a fast bowler. Taking 400 Test wickets is something all of us aspire to achieve. He has been very influential; he gives us a lot of good advise. Having him around is great for the team,” he said of Steyn.

Tragedy struck the pacer last year when his father passed away, but Ngidi is grateful to his mother for taking up his father's place and cheering him on and said that he wants to make his dad proud every time he steps onto the field.

“My father was my biggest supporter; that spot has been taken by my mum now. His demise was unfortunate and sudden.

"He wanted to see me play for South Africa and in the IPL - I'm happy that he got to see both. Life, death – it happens. I know he’s watching me from above, so I make him proud,” Ngidi signed off.
