On Wednesday, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly said that it is very difficult to give an answer about the status of the 2020 edition of the IPL, given that the government announced a 21-day lockdown in the country. He also said that planning it becomes extremely difficult given that FTP is scheduled.

BCCI’s president Sourav Ganguly said that at this point, it is very difficult for him to give an update on the status of the cash-rich league. After the original schedule was postponed till April 15, the start of the tournament looks highly unlikely as per the 21-day lockdown issued by the central government. Since then, it has become increasingly difficult for Ganguly-led BCCI to make a decision on the fate of the tournament.

"I can't say anything at the moment. We are at the same place where we were on the day we postponed. Nothing has changed in the last 10 days. So, I don't have an answer to it. Status quo remains," Ganguly told PTI in an exclusive interaction.

He also was unsure whether they could accommodate the IPL in the near future, given that the Test series scheduled in the next two-three months look set to be rescheduled. When asked about the financial aspect of the tournament, Ganguly expressed his doubts over getting the insurance money back, given that it is a lockdown.

"You can't plan anything. The FTP is scheduled. It's there and you can't change the FTP. All around the world, cricket and more so sports has stopped," he said.

"I am not sure whether you can get insurance money. Because this is a government lockdown. I am not sure whether a government lockdown is covered by insurance or not. We will have to see. We have not assessed all these things. At this point of time, it is very difficult for me to give any concrete answer," he concluded.
