Was waiting for chances like Nidahas final to prove myself, admits Dinesh Karthik

Dinesh Karthik has admitted that he waiting and practising for Nidhas Trophy final like chances to prove his worth for the Indian team, with his batting. The right-hander believed that he still had the belief in himself to score 34 runs in two overs and revealed that it is important to keep focused.

In a never-before finish in World cricket, Dinesh Karthik’s heroics won an unlikely game for India against Bangladesh in the Nidahas Trophy final. Batting first, the Tigers posted 166 on board, losing eight of their wickets in the process. For an Indian team, which had the likes of Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul and Shikhar Dhawan, this total was never going to be enough. 

However, that was exactly where the plot was twisted in the innings, with the Indian team struggling to be on par with Bangladesh after the 18th over. With Karthik still at the crease, India had to score 34 runs off two overs. 22 runs in the 19th over and 12 in the final took India home. Recalling the incident, Karthik admitted that he was waiting for chances like that to prove himself. 

"I was waiting for such a moment like that to prove myself. I had been practicing a lot to face a chance like this. When the real situation came to go through that I think it is fun at that stage,” Karthik said on Star Sports 1's Tamil show Mind Masters by MFORE, reported India Today. 

The Tamil Nadu keeper also added that his belief that he could win the game for the country helped him despite the runs needs towards the back end of the innings. 

“Lots of it happen in an auto mode. As you practice a lot and when you are at that stage you know what you need to do. I had belief that we would win that match, it was 2 overs 34 runs to win, and I still thought that I could win this game for the team,” he added.
