Team India captain Virat Kohli was spotted chatting with the South Africa players during the ongoing Cape Town Test after he survived a caught-behind appeal. Kohli missed the Johannesburg fixture after he sustained a back spasm ahead of the match, and KL Rahul led the visitors in the second Test.

Team India opted to bat first after winning the toss in the third and final Test of the three-match series in Cape Town. KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal, who displayed brilliant batting performance in the last two fixtures in the ongoing Test series, departed early before lunch. Rahul (12) fell to Duanne Olivier in the 12th over, while Mayank (15) departed in the very next over bowled by Kagiso Rabada.

Virat Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara anchored the innings in the first session after India had a poor start on Day 1 of the Cape Town Test. Pujara (43) looked confident with the bat, but the middle-order batsman fell to Marco Jansen in the 38th over. Ajinkya Rahane, who walked out to bat after the dismissal of Pujara, could manage only nine runs, and was dismissed cheaply.

During the 52nd over of the India batting innings, there was a huge caught-behind appeal against Kohli off Duanne Oliver's ball, and the Proteas wicket-keeper looked confident on it. The slow-motion replays confirmed a gap between the ball and bat, and Kohli was declared not out. Soon after the decision, the Indian captain was seen having a chat with the opposition players.
