India head coach Rahul Dravid has backed KL Rahul after India's loss in the three match ODI series by 3-0 against South Africa saying he did a very decent job as captain. Dravid also added that the series is a good eye opener ahead of the ODI World Cup scheduled to be played next year in India.

India recently suffered a series defeat against South Africa in a three match ODI series by 3-0 under the leadership of KL Rahul. The hosts outperformed the visitors in every department and secured a series victory. India were considered favorites entering into the series but were unable to dominate the series. In spite of a poor performance in the series, India head coach Rahul Dravid has backed KL Rahul saying he did a very decent job as captain.

"He did a good job. It's not easy to end on wrong side of the result. He is just starting out and I think he did a very decent job. He will constantly get better as he captains," Rahul Dravid said at the post-match press conference.

Dravid also labeled the series as an eye opener ahead of the ODI World Cup scheduled to be played next year in India.

"This is a good eye opener but we haven't played a lot of ODI cricket. We last played against England in March (after that second string side played against Lanka under Dravid's coaching). We will play a lot of white ball cricket before next year's World Cup,” he explained.

India also struggled in batting and lacked depth. The team was playing with five specialist batsmen and all-rounders Shardul Thakur and Ravichandran Ashwin. Dravid revealed that when the players who play at 6,7 and 8 will come back in the squad it will have a slightly different look.

"The guys who play at 6, 7, and 8 weren't available for selection and when they come back, the side will have a slightly different look," he said.

India also lost the Test series by 1-2 and their wait for a maiden Test series win in South Africa prolonged.
