Legendary fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar has claimed that Pakistan will be under pressure when they next take on India in the T20 World Cup, on October 23. The Babar Azam-led side had a resounding 10-wicket victory when the two sides last met in the UAE last year during the tournament’s earlier edition.
India suffered a humiliating 10-wicket defeat against their arch-rivals Pakistan in the T20 World Cup last year in the UAE. The two sides will next meet on October 23 at the MCG for the tournament’s upcoming edition, scheduled to take place in Australia.
Pakistan’s iconic cricketer Shoaib Akhtar was asked how he sees the next meetup between the two sides during a conversation with Sportskeeda. Akhtar replied the pressure will be on Pakistan this time as around 70,000 out of 100,000 fans at MCG will be cheering for India. Akhtar also suggested that Pakistan’s team management must pick the right playing XI to get a positive result.
“The wicket at the MCG plays kicks through at night. Bowling second would be ideal for Pakistan to win the match against India. There will be a crowd of 100,000, out of which 70,000 will be supporting India so, the pressure will be on Pakistan,” Akhtar told Sportskeeda.
“India cannot go about and select a random team against Pakistan without defining their roles. I think the management should select the team carefully and I fully believe it will be a solid team. It won't be a walkover for Pakistan this time around. If India pick the right squad for the tournament, then they have a very good chance of beating Pakistan. They are absolutely even teams at the moment, so it is very difficult to predict a result.”
