Former India cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has praised Tilak Varma for his exploits in IPL saying that his basics are very accurate and is also a solid player technically. Varma has put on an impressive show in the IPL 2022 scoring 368 runs from 12 innings including two half-centuries so far.

IPL 2022 has been a forgettable season for Mumbai Indians but the emergence of Tilak Varma will be the biggest positive for them. The franchise will be surely looking at him for the future as he has impressed many with his batting in the middle-order. Varma has scored 368 runs from 12 innings and is the highest run-scorer for the team.

Varma has been consistent for the team but his ability to play under pressure has been making him stand apart.  MI are already knocked out of this season but they will look at Varma to pile runs consistently in next season as well. Many former cricketers have praised him and Sunil Gavaskar has also joined the list. Gavaskar is of the opinion that his basics are very correct and some extra work on it might give him an opportunity to play for the national team.

"He's got the basics right. Technically he's right. He gets right behind the line of the ball. He's got a straight bat, and while defending on the front foot his bat is close to the pad. So, all his basics are right. With all the right basics you've got to marry the temperament and that marriage we have seen is very good at the moment. I hope that he carries on,” Gavaskar said while speaking on Cricket Live on Star Sports,

“Rohit Sharma rightly mentioned that he could be an all-format player for India. So now it's up to him to work that little bit extra, get his fitness going, get a little tighter as far as the technique is concerned and prove Rohit right.”

Mumbai Indians will play against Sunrisers Hyderabad in their next match on Tuesday.
