WPL | Delhi Capitals squad for Womenâs Premier League 2023
Just like their potent menâs roster, Delhi Capitals will aim to build a formidable squad at the WPL 2023 auction under the leadership of two-time The Hundred-winning coach Jonathan Batty. The Englishman will also have Hemlata Kala, Lisa Keightley, and Biju George to discuss to make that happen.
The inaugural edition of the Womenâs Premier League (WPL) will get underway on March 4, and all five teams will be looking to create a daunting squad to earn the title contenders tag even before the competition begins. They all will be raising paddles on February 13 during the auction process in Mumbai, where a total of 409 players will go under the hammer. Jonathan Batty, who is currently working as the head coach of Melbourne Stars in the WBBL and the Surrey women, will be there while assistant coaches Hemlata Kala and Lisa Keightley along with fielding coach Biju George are also expected to be present at their table.
Delhi Capitals have strengthened their top three in the batting unit by acquiring the services of Jemimah Rodrigues who might lead the charge with the bat for the side. Further, they have added more power to the batting by signing Australian batter Meg Lanning who has 3297 T20I runs to her name. They have ensured a steady top order with the signing of Shafali Verma who provides explosive batting at the top and few overs with her off-break.Â
Further, DC have acquired a quality set of all-rounders signing Radha Yadav, Shikha Pandey, and South African superstar Marizanne Kapp. The team have added U-19 talent Titas Sadhu to their squad who can be handy with her bowling. Alice Capsey has 247 T20I runs with a strike rate of 128.64 and the team would be expecting some runs from the English batting all-rounder. Laura Harris will be a backup option in the top order while the side has also acquired a couple of domestic talents in the form of Jasia Akhter and Mannu Mani. The team then focused on acquiring Indian talents including notable incisions like Taniya Bhatia and Poonam Yadav.Â
