Wanindu Hasaranga ruled out of the ODI series against India due to a hamstring injury
Sri Lanka all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga has been ruled out from the ongoing ODI series against India due to a hamstring injury. This setback compounds the challenges for the hosts who are already grappling with the absence of key pacers Matheesha Pathirana and Dilshan Madushanka.
According to a report by Cricbuzz quoting a Sri Lanka Cricket media release, “Hasaranga experienced pain in his left hamstring while delivering the last ball of his 10th over during the first ODI. An MRI performed on the player confirmed the injury.”
Meanwhile, 34-year-old leg-spinner Jeffrey Vandersay who had been on the bench, has been named as Hasaranga's replacement.
Sri Lanka has been plagued by injury issues even before the start of the preceding T20I series against India. Dushmantha Chameera and Nuwan Thushara were ruled out ahead of the three T20I games. Additionally, Sri Lanka Cricket announced that star pacers Matheesha Pathirana and Dilshan Madushanka have also been ruled out from the ODI squad. They were replaced by Mohamed Shiraz and Eshan Malinga.
Following a tie in the first game, Sri Lanka will face India in the second ODI at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo today at 2:30 PM.
