Pakistan have announced a 17-man squad led by Shan Masood for the two-match Test series against Bangladesh starting August 21. Saud Shakeel has been trusted with the vice-captain’s role while Naseem Shah is set to return to red-ball cricket after an injury hiatus for thirteen months.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced numerous amendments to the home Tests which are a part of the World Test Championship. They’ve left out  Imam-ul-Haq, Faheem Ashraf, Mohammad Nawaz, Noman Ali, and Sajid Khan from their last assignment against Australia in December-January. Instead, Kamran Ghulam, Mohammad Ali, and Muhammad Huraira have been summoned on the back of impressive domestic performances.

Ghulam gathered 1,025 runs in 11 first-class games and Ali snared 47 wickets during the 2023-24 domestic season. In addition, Ghulam was the only player to surpass the 1000-run mark in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy and struck a double ton against Bangladesh A in Darwin last month.

It is also worth noting that Aamer Jamal, who had a breakthrough outing in Australia in 2023-24 is undergoing rehabilitation from injury and his availability is subject to fitness.

Pakistan will start their preparatory camp under head coach Jason Gillespie and assistant coach Azhar Mahmood next week. The first Test is scheduled to begin from August 21 and the second on August 26.

Pakistan squad for Bangladesh Tests: Shan Masood (c), Saud Shakeel (vc), Aamer Jamal (subject to Fitness), Abdullah Shafique,  Salman Ali Agha, Sarfaraz Ahmed (wk), Khurram Shahzad, Mir Hamza, Mohammad Ali, Mohammad Huraira, Mohammad Rizwan (wk), Naseem Shah, Abrar Ahmed, Babar Azam, Kamran Ghulam, Saim Ayub,  Shaheen Shah Afridi
