The entire country and Rahul Dravid felt a sense of dejection when Mushfiqur Rahim's fifty in the 2007 World Cup led to India's untimely exit. Nevertheless, Dravid's illustrious journey as a coach culminated on a triumphant note as he delivered an emotionally charged farewell address to the team.

‌In an emotional farewell address posted by the BCCI, India’s stalwart and ex-coach Rahul Dravid shared his heartfelt sentiments following the team's latest silverware triumph. With a voice laden with nostalgia and pride, Dravid reflected on his stint as a coach and thanked the team and the BCCI.

Looking back to the tough times and India’s WTC loss and 2023 World Cup final loss, Dravid said, “ There have been a few disappointments over the years where we have come close but we have not been able to cross the line. But what this bunch of boys has done, everyone in the support staff has done. The whole country is proud of every one of you for what you have achieved.”

The 51-year-old veteran also expressed his gratitude to Rohit Sharma for encouraging him to extend his tenure as coach following India's ODI World Cup final defeat to Australia last year in Ahmedabad. He said, “ Ro (Rohit), Thank you very much for making that call in November and asking me to continue. It’s been such a privilege and a pleasure to work with every one of you, but also with Ro. Thank you for your time. I know as captain and coach, there are a lot of times we have to chat.”

The former India captain assumed the role of head coach of India in November 2021. Dravid’s final stint as ODI captain ended in a group-stage exit for India during the 2007 World Cup in the West Indies.
