Ruturaj Gaikwad named new Maharashtra skipper for upcoming Ranji Trophy season
Ruturaj Gaikwad has been appointed as Maharashtra's new captain, replacing Ankit Bawne for the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy season. With prior leadership experience in the IPL and the Indian team, Gaikwad is all set to lead his state team after Maharashtra’s disappointing last season under Bawne.
Under Ankit Bawne's leadership, the Maharashtra team had a challenging 2023-24 season, managing to win only one out of their seven matches. The team finished seventh in Elite Group A, with a record of three losses and three draws.
The CSK captain's appointment comes amid his non-selection for the upcoming T20I and ODI series against Sri Lanka, starting on July 27th. Last season, Gaikwad was sidelined due to injury during the group stage, limiting his participation to just one match.
For the new season, Maharashtra has been placed in Elite Group A, which includes teams like Meghalaya, Tripura, Baroda, Odisha, Mumbai, Jammu and Kashmir, and Services. In the opening match of the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 season, Maharashtra will square off against Jammu & Kashmir at the Sher-e-Kashmir Stadium in Srinagar.
Maharashtra’s probable squad for Ranji Trophy 2024-25: Ruturaj Gaikwad (c), Saurabh Navale, Ankeet Bawane, Mandar Bhandari, Nikhil Naik, Hitesh Walunj, Siddhesh Veer, Vicky Ostwal, Sachin Dhas, Satyajeet Bachhav, Harshal Kate, Taranjitsingh Dhillon, Yash Kshirsagar, Prashant Solanki, Arshin Kulkarni, Rajvardhan Hangargekar, Rahul Tripathi, Ramkrishna Ghosh, Digvijay Patil, Mukesh Choudhary, Azim Kazi, Pradeep Dadhe, Siddharth Mhatre, Manoj Ingale, Mehul Patel, Rajneesh Gurbani, Murtaza Trunkwala, Vaibhav Gosavi.
