Netherlands star Sybrand Engelbrecht has announced his retirement from international cricket following his team's final T20 World Cup 2024 clash against Sri Lanka in Gros Islet on June 17. The 35-year-old captured headlines this morning with a stellar display of fielding prowess against Sri Lanka.

Engelbrecht began his Dutch cricket career in 2023 following his earlier stint representing South Africa at the 2008 U19 World Cup. He continued his cricket journey domestically in South Africa until the 2016/17 season.

Since his international debut for the Netherlands, Engelbrecht has played 24 matches, evenly split between ODIs and T20Is. His stint includes participation in both the 2023 ODI World Cup and the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024, contributing significantly with eight ODIs and four T20Is in World Cup tournaments.

The match against Sri Lanka marked Engelbrecht's final appearance in international cricket, with him making a brief appearance with the bat later in the day. He scored 11 runs off nine balls in the chase of a challenging 202-run target.
