Twitter feels for emotional and content Rohit Sharma bidding farewell to international T20 cricket

Times change and so do the cause of tears as moments of happiness awaited after dejection in Ahmedabad. However, India's victory at the ICC T20 World Cup was followed by unprecedented announcements with Rohit Sharma joining Virat Kohli in the retirement list from the T20I format.

In the press conference after India’s brilliant triumph in the T20 World Cup final against South Africa, the Indian captain declared his retirement from T20I cricket. He said, “ This was my last game as well.” He further added, “ No better time to say goodbye to this format. I've loved every moment of this. I started my India career playing this format. This is what I wanted, I wanted to win the cup.” 

His retirement marks the conclusion of an illustrious T20I career, during which he ascended to the pinnacle as the format's highest scorer with a staggering 4,231 runs in 159 matches. The Nagpur-born holds the record for the most centuries in T20 internationals. 

Rohit’s T20 journey began with the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007, where he was a youngster in India's maiden title triumph. Now, as captain, he has steered India to their second championship, further cherishing his legacy in the sport.

His retirement comes on the heels of his teammate Virat Kohli, who also announced his exit from T20 internationals after the World Cup troumph. The Twitterverse was overjoyed and flooded with mixed emotions after the Rohit Sharma-led community broke an eleven-year-long losing streak in ICC events but didn't see the farewell of the two biggest stars coming.
