Winning their first toss in the series, the ploy to bat first paid dividends for India when the score read 73/1 inside the powerplay. With Abhishek Sharma back in the dugout, Tilak Varma accompanied Sanju Samson in putting up a stellar show with the bat as their respective centuries set up India’s 283-run total. In contrast, South Africa’s aim to chase the total was halted frequently, courtesy of Arshdeep’s new ball enchantment.
After an away-swinger on the first over’s second ball, Arshdeep Singh bewildered Reeza Hendricks with an incoming delivery pitched on a similar length that seamed in to beat the inside edge and knock the stumps. Soon after, he was celebrating the wicket with high on adrenaline rush while Hendricks was stunned at the crease. In his next over, he bowled an outswinger to Aiden Markram who closed the bat face early while intending a flick and ended up with a top edge straight down to Ravi Bishnoi at point. Subsequently, the left-arm pacer dished a good length delivery on the next ball that jagged back in to thud the back pad of Heinrich Klaasen. The wicketkeeper-batter failed to nab behind the line and even a Drs could not help him from leaving the field dejected. It's the same pitch where India stockpiled gargantuan 283 runs in the first innings and the seeing Arshdeep extract juice out of it, the Twitterverse echoed with applause.
