‌WATCH, ADT10 | Belligerent Buttler loses bat in the sky en route to one-handed maximum

How rare is it to see a bat and the ball in the sky simultaneously during a cricket match? Such was the scene during one of the recent Abu Dhabi T10 clashes with the England white-ball captain Jos Buttler smacking a six despite losing his bat in the night sky at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium.

In the 25th game of the ensuing 2024 Abu Dhabi T10, the Deccan Gladiators won the toss and elected to field first. The decision paid off with Maheesh Theekshana and Richard Gleeson making early inroads with the new ball. With the score reading 23/4 by the third over, the middle order felt the pressure and could set up a 72-run total in ten overs. In response, the Gladiators lost Tom Kohler-Cadmore early before the pair of Nicholas Pooran and Jos Buttler took the opposition by storm. Among the eight sixes hit by the duo, Buttler’s one-handed sixes became the prime highlight of the innings.

Having completed the team fifty in the fourth over, Buttler welcomed David Payne with a six off a low full-toss. He whacked it across the line off the sweet spot with the white cherry soaring over the deep mid-wicket ropes. In the next delivery, the pacer bowled on a length outside the stumps and the wicketkeeper-batter went for yet another heave. However, Buttler lost his bat in the process with the camera capturing both the willow and the cherry in the sky. Surprisingly, the ball did traverse all over the long on region and the Twitterverse was awed by Buttler’s ball-striking ability.
