In a significant development in the Australian cricket circuit, Men’s head coach Andrew McDonald’s contract has been extended until 2027. The Victorian succeeded former Australian cricketer Justin Langer in 2022 and achieved greater heights with the Kangaroos in the past couple of years.

McDonald will be in charge of the Men’s national team for upcoming major sporting events such as the World Test Championship 2025-27, the 2027 Cricket World Cup in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia, and the 2027 Ashes tour, among others.

The National side tasted immense success under his stewardship as the Pat Cummins-led unit earned the 2023 World Test Championship mace and won the 2023 Cricket World Cup in India. They also retained the Ashes against a restructured English unit that predominantly wore the hat of ‘Bazball’.

"I am very fortunate to have an exceptional group of leaders, players, coaches, and staff who are fully invested in the ongoing well-being, success, and development of this group. The professionalism, commitment, and experience of my fellow coaches and the wider staff have ensured the journey has been extremely successful but just as importantly created a culture of unity, trust, and inclusivity. International cricket has many challenges for all teams and I am particularly proud how the group, players and staff, across all formats have navigated those together," McDonald said.

Currently, Australia are ranked ICC no. 1 in the red-ball format and second in both the white-ball formats. They will be squaring off against India for a five-match Border Gavaskar Series starting November 22.
