Indian captain Rohit Sharma will be in action for the first time since their T20 World Cup triumph in the Caribbean. Ahead of the crucial Bangladesh series, he highlighted the KL Rahul and the youngsters' importance, the bowlers’ workload management, and the new coaching setup, among others.

Two days before the first of the two-match Test series in Chennai, Rohit emphasized the importance of Rahul, with his hundred in South Africa and an 80 in Hyderabad being the hallmark of his class. He also lauded youngsters such as Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sarfaraz Khan, and Dhruv Jurel for their performance in the past. The former is the leading run-getter for India in the current World Test Championship cycle where the Men in Blue have participated in four bilateral series so far.

"We all know the quality of Rahul, he has got the talent - we must give clear message - since he came back, he scored a Hundred in South Africa, 80+ in Hyderabad then unfortunately got injured. Honestly, you don't need to speak too much to them (Jaiswal, Jurel & Sarfaraz). We saw glimpses what they can do. Jurel especially with the glove in hand… they are very hungry and hungry for success as well. Jaiswal had a great series last time, Jurel as well scoring runs in tough situations. Sarfaraz, who is fearless. I think we have a mix of everything which is a good sign,” Rohit said in the Pres Conference as quoted by Timesnownews.

The skipper also mentioned his history working with the members of the new coaching setup. Shouldering arms along with Gautam Gambhir and Abhishek Nayar, Rohit knows him ‘well’. He also mentioned playing against Morne Morkel, India’s newly appointed bowling coach, and how ‘tough’ competitor he was during playing days. However, Rohit had little to say about Ryan ten Doeschate and highlighted the importance of understanding and adaptability with the new think tank.

As Rohit’s press conferences are known for his sense of humour, this one was no different when he took a cheeky dig at Bangladesh during the latter half of the conference.

“Everybody wants to beat India. Teams derive a lot of fun in beating India. Lene do maze unko (So let them (Bangladesh) have fun. India has played against all teams. We don't strategize differently whether it is Bangladesh, Australia or any other team. We will try and focus on our game.” the 37-year-old added.

The Bangladesh series marks the inception of India’s packed calendar as they play ten Tests, all a part of the World Test Championship. Currently, they’re sitting atop in the league table and the two-time runners-up would be hoping to strengthen their chances for the finals.
