Axar Patel's decision to trust Abhishek Porel over Mitchell Starc cost DC a wicket against CSK in Chennai on Saturday

Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, Lasith Malinga -- the yorker has had a long legacy of guileful executioners, and the likes of Mitchell Starc have only added to the lore. The quick was at his devastating best in Chennai and deserved a second powerplay wicket, only to be denied by his own teammate.

‌A scintillating 77 off 51 deliveries from KL Rahul in just his second game for the Delhi Capitals meant Chennai Super Kings were left staring at a daunting target of 184 at their Chepauk den on Saturday. To make matters worse, both Rachin Ravindra and Ruturaj Gaikwad departed within the first three overs to Mukesh Kumar and Mitchell Starc respectively, bringing Vijay Shankar to the crease alongwith Devon Conway. In fact, even the Tamil Nad all-rounder was a goner, but a lapse of judgement from Abhishek Porel meant the Capitals were left rueing their decisions.

After scalping Ruturaj on the third ball of the third over, Starc began with a lights-out inswinging full delivery that sneaked past Shankar's inside edge and only just whistle past the stumps to avoid the batter the humiliation of a golden duck. Yet, it was just the trailer, as next-up the big Aussie delivered an even more menacing swerving toecrusher headed directly for the middle stump were it not for Vijay Shankar's boot getting in the way. Starc immediately went up in appeal but received no support from his teammates and upon inquiring from wicket-keeper Abhishek Porel, the youngster stated the Kookaburra hit the bat first before thumping into the foot. Both Axar Patel and Starc felt convinced enough to not review the decision and the game moved on.

However, replays soon showed that the ball had quite clearly hit the boot first and got no piece of the willow at all. Starc upon seeing it all unfold on the big screen, immediately had both his hands on his head while a regretful smile flashed across his face, knowing it would have been one of the wickets of the season. Twitterati, meanwhile, were not as subtle with their reactions.
