AUS vs ENG | Twitter disappointed as Stokes gives vent to feelings after failing to pull off miraculous coup
Ben Stokes has been known to come up with superlative efforts whenever the chips are down, but he was dismissed at the wrong time in the second Test against Australia in Brisbane. The England skipper was visibly angry and disappointed as he tossed his bat and punched his helmet as he walked back.

After an ordinary batting display in the last session of the third day of the Brisbane Test, England were keen to put in a fight against Australia and not hand victory on a plate to the hosts. The overnight pair of Ben Stokes and Will Jacks showed great patience and restraint to survive the first session of the penultimate day without losing a wicket.
Starting at 134/6, the pair added 59 runs in 24 overs in the first period to go in with a lead of 16 runs. They continued to be defiant, extending their stand to 96 runs in 221 balls before stand-in skipper Steve Smith pulled off a blinder to end Jacks’ gritty stay.
The England skipper completed a patient half-century, taking 148 balls to reach his milestone, in the next over but the departure of his long-standing partner seemed to finally irk him. The all-rounder ended up nicking a short of a length delivery from Michael Neser, who came from around the wicket, that pitched around off stump before straightening up.
It looked like all the effort till then had gone in vain as the southpaw tossed his bat up in the air while starting his walk back. He was angry and frustrated, and even punched his helmet, realising that the visitors had their last hopes pinned on him.
It turned out to be true as well as the visitors’ innings ended soon after at 241, setting a paltry target of 65 for the Aussies to chase. Twitter was shattered as they were getting ready for Headingley 2.0 only to be left to rue alongside the England skipper.
Gone!

Famous
Stokes will be famous for only one ashes innings in his whole career, only those that go down under and win an ashes series can be considered legends. This tour has been a shambles #Ashes2025

Winner
Ben stokes is a winner surrounded by “losers”, and it’s honestly sad to see.

He looks defeated and it’s not even his fault. I’d be too if I was surrounded by a bunch of these cunts knowing you’re not allowed to show any negativity. He deserves a winning team.
Terrific
A terrific partnership between

Stokes and Jacks. Then quick clatter of wickets. 4-17 #Australia need just 65.#Ashes2025

Ashamed
Apart from Ben Stokes, Joe Root, Will Jacks, send every other player home, they should be ashamed of themselves, given in and shown no fight! It’s like they don’t even want to be there #Ashes2025

Only if they had
If England had taken their catches. They might have saved 150/200 runs. If Pope, Crawley, Smith (Root forgiven) weren't driving on the up and taken a leaf out of Jacks and Stokes' book. Australia have bowled and caught well but England only have themselves to blame #Ashes2025

Drop a million ones
Root scored a century. Stokes scored a 50. ENG chose this match to drop a million catches.

Yea, the final scoreline going to be very bad.
