‌MI vs KKR | Twitter erupts as Mumbai’s new scout gem Ashwani Kumar deepens Russell’s woes

Arijit Kundu

One of the prominent factors about the Indian Premier League is the rise of uncapped players that often gets overshadowed by the vast Indian domestic circuit. Mumbai Indians, known for their scouting brilliance, gave birth to Ashwani Kumar’s excellence, who removed Andre Russell on Monday.

Electing to field first after the toss favoured Hardik Pandya, Mumbai Indians got off to a great start with the cricket ball. Trent Boult, Deepak Chahar, and Ashwani Kumar constituted the four wickets inside the powerplay. The injuries worsened despite the addition of Manish Pandey as KKR’s impact sub as young Ashwani on his first game, wreaked havoc in the opposition middle order with Russell’s wicket as the prime highlight.

Having conceded 18 runs in his two overs and bagged three wickets, captain Hardik backed the left-arm pacer against dangerous ‘Dre-Russ’. He conceded a four on the first delivery of the thirteenth over before coming back strong and shattering the stumps. On the fourth ball of the very same over, Ashwani bowled straight at the stumps on a good length, and Russell missed on a wild swing to end up hearing the death’s knell, spurring a Twitterverse frenzy.
