Sanju Samson has redeemed himself at his very best for the Indian team. From not being able to score runs in the T20I format to winning the ICC Player of the Month award, the journey has been full of ups and downs for the Indian opener. He was not even a part of the Indian team in the initial games of the T20 World Cup.

But following that, he eventually made his way back to the team and delivered match winning performances when they were needed the most. His knocks were crucial, and even helped India to win the T20 World Cup for the third time. Moreover, Samson was rewarded with the Player of the Series award, despite missing out on a few games of the tournament.

For his brilliant performances, Samson was also nominated for the ICC Player of the Month award. He ended up winning the same for his prolific performances for the Indian team in the T20 World Cup. Even though the tournament ended a month ago, his name is still being cherished.

Let's take a look at Samson's setback and redemption story.

Setback in New Zealand Series

The Indian team announced its squad for the T20I series against New Zealand and the T20 World Cup altogether. It was a combined team for both, and Samson also had his name in the same. The opening slot was fixed for Samson and Abhishek Sharma, but Samson struggled to score runs for the team in this series.

He went on to give low scores while opening, which caused trouble for the Indian team. In all the matches, he failed to register big scores for which he was sent to open with Abhishek Sharma. Eventually, Ishan Kishan, who made his comeback to the Indian team was able to do well while coming to bat at number three.

This led to Sanju Samson being dropped from the playing XI for the T20 World Cup. In his place, the team decided to go with Ishan Kishan as the opening partner for Abhishek Sharma.
