The ODI World Cup is coming soon and it will be hosted by South Africa. The Proteas have never managed to make it to the World Cup finals and win the title, causing a worry for the home team. Amidst this, Kevin Pietersen has urged Heinrich Klaasen to take back his retirement.

Kevin Pietersen has made some bold statements related to the South African team. They will be hosting the ODI World Cup 2027, and it is necessary for the home team to at least reach the finals. In its history, South Africa has never managed to win the ODI World Cup or even reach the finals of the tournament.

This will be a huge concern for the team, as they enter the upcoming tournament as the hosts. Kevin Pietersen was able to highlight this concern in his recent tweet, as he also urged Heinrich Klaasen to make his international comeback for the Proteas.

In his tweet, Pietersen said, “South Africa have never won a cricket world cup! There should be a phone call this morning, from the South African cricket board, to Heinrich Klaasen, to ask him if he can rejoin international cricket and be a central figure in their campaign to try and win their first ever world cup which will be in South Africa next year.”

Our Take

The words of Kevin Pietersen were strong and the South African cricket board must also put it in consideration. Klaasen announced a shocking retirement from all types of international cricket last year, and he still continues to play in the T20 leagues. Taking a look at his form in the Indian Premier League, it is clear that Klaasen is having a lot of cricket left in him.
