Delhi Capitals have continued their dominance in the Women's Premier League. Making it to the finals in all four seasons is not everyone's cup of tea. But for Delhi Capitals, it can be said that they are built for the finals. The team which was doubted a lot after the auction has now silenced the critics.

The fourth season of the WPL is now bringing the fourth final for Delhi Capitals. The team can easily be said as the most consistent team in the history of the tournament. Even the champions such as RCB and MI have not managed to reach the finals of all seasons of the tournament.

After the WPL Mega auction came to an end, fans doubted the team to a great extent. But now they have been able to silence all the critics and make it once again to the finals of the tournament. Delhi Capitals will be aiming to take revenge against RCB for the loss they suffered in the WPL 2024 finals.

1. Why was DC doubted?

Before the WPL Mega auction was set to be announced, all teams had to submit their retentions. Each team was entitled to retain five players in their line-up, but Delhi had some other plans. They had retained five players which were Jemimah Rodrigues, Shafali Verma, Marizanne Kapp, Annabel Sutherland, and Niki Prasad.

But the team made one shocking decision, which was releasing their captain, Meg Lanning. She was the key reason why the team was able to reach the finals of the first three editions of the tournament. And DC went on to release her right before the auction was set to begin.

Along with that, the team also had some shocking releases such as Radha Yadav, Alice Capsey, and more, who have played a key role for the team. They decided to revamp their entire team, and even brought down a captaincy change. The team went for players such as Laura Wolvaardt, Lizelle Lee, Shree Charani, and more, who were certified match winners.

But the decision made by the team to let go of their captain Meg Lanning received some criticism. Fans started to doubt whether DC will be able to reach the finals in the upcoming edition or not. Delhi Capitals also announced Jemimah Rodrigues as the new skipper of the team.

2. Struggling Start, Dominant End

Delhi Capitals surely did not have a good start to the WPL 2026 edition. The team had lost both of its first two games, losing to Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Giants. They had started the season being at the bottom of the table, before securing their first win against UP Warriorz. Following this, Delhi also lost to RCB, and the team just had one win in 4 matches.

They would have needed a serious turnaround at this stage, and even the doubters thought they were right. But it was too early to judge the team's performance, as they were not officially eliminated. Delhi Capitals went on to win two consecutive games against RCB and MI, defeating the two champions of the WPL.

Later they lost the game against Gujarat Giants, and their qualification was in their hands with the game against UP Warriorz. The equation was simple, a win for the team would guarantee them the playoffs spot. And Delhi was able to win this game against UP Warriorz by 5 wickets, marking their place in the Eliminator against Gujarat Giants.

3. Appearing for 4th Consecutive Final

Delhi Capitals had their ultimate clash against Gujarat Giants in the Eliminator match. Gujarat Giants were able to defeat Delhi in both of the games in the league stages. But this time, even they didn't know what type of performance Delhi could give against them.

Delhi Capitals was fortunate enough to win the toss in this crucial game. Jemimah Rodrigues decided that her team would field first and this decision helped them to a great extent. Delhi was able to put Gujarat Giants at the score of 59/4 within 9 overs, with Nandani Sharma taking quick scalps.

Beth Mooney and Georgia Wareham had a good stand, which took the team to a stable position. With Mooney scoring 62 runs, Gujarat Giants were able to post 168 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in 20 overs. Now it was time for Delhi Capitals to chase down this mammoth total against Gujarat Giants.

Lizelle Lee and Shafali Verma were able to give the team a good start, as they scored 89 runs in 7 overs. Eventually, both of the openers lost their wickets in the 8th over, allowing Laura Wolvaardt and Jemimah Rodrigues to take the crease. The captain scored 41 runs, while Laura Wolvaardt scored 32, which helped Delhi to win the game by 7 wickets.
