Did BCB Quietly Win Big in the ICC-PCB Crucial Meeting?
The ultimate clash of India and Pakistan is back on, with the boycott being cancelled. As the match gets on, it seems that the silent win has been taken over by the Bangladesh Cricket Board. The team was replaced recently in the T20 World Cup 2026 by Scotland, for not playing their games in India.

The T20 World Cup has started already, but the tensions surrounding the tournament have come to an end now. Earlier it was Bangladesh who wanted to shift their venue to Sri Lanka but they were not successful in it. And then, it was Pakistan who decided to boycott the match against India.
Talks took place between the ICC and the PCB, and they came out to be positive. PCB made some demands to ensure that the match remains on, and no boycott takes place. While some of their demands have been accepted, many others have been rejected. Amidst all the chaos which happened, it seems that the silent winner has been the BCB.
1. ICC’s Statement for BCB
The meeting between the ICC and PCB also had another board involved. And it was the Bangladesh Cricket Board. A few weeks back, the BCB made its demand to not play their games in India. They wanted their matches to be shifted to Sri Lanka, else they'll pull out of the tournament. Eventually, the team was replaced by Scotland right before the tournament was set to begin.
It was expected that the BCB would face heavy penalties or sanctions by the ICC. This has happened earlier with the teams who pulled off the tournament at the very last moment. But the demands of the PCB had some benefits for Bangladesh cricket too.
The statement by the ICC said, “With respect to Bangladesh, the ICC reiterated its continued facilitation of growth in one of cricket’s most vibrant markets, with more than 200 million passionate fans to ensure that the national team's non-participation in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 does not have any long-term effects on cricket in the country.”
Along with that, it is also being reported that the Bangladesh Cricket Board will be in line to host two ICC events. These will be right before the 2031 Men's ODI World Cup, while all the hosting procedures will take place according to the ICC rules. With no sanctions or penalties on them, the BCB has come out as a silent winner in the boycott talks.
2. PCB Agrees to Play
On 1st February, the Pakistan Government announced that they will participate in the T20 World Cup. But their announcement continued by saying that the team will not take the field for their game against India. Following this, the meetings between ICC and PCB took place to come to a conclusion of the same.
While the PCB had put down its demands to play the game, the majority of them have been reportedly rejected. Some of their key demands included having bilateral series against India restored, and an increase in their ICC revenue share. As the demands were rejected, some were accepted too, which helped the PCB to make up their minds.
A statement issued by the ICC said, “The dialogue between ICC and PCB took place as part of a broader engagement with both parties recognising the need for constructive dealings and being united, committed and purposeful in their aspirations to serve the best interests of the game with integrity, neutrality and cooperation. In that prevailing spirit, it was agreed that all members will respect their commitments as per the terms of participation for ICC events and do all that is necessary to ensure that the ongoing edition of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup is a success.”
3. India vs Pakistan Awaits on 15 February
After witnessing the El Clasico four times in 2025, it is time to witness it again in 2026. India and Pakistan will be facing each other once again in a T20I clash on 15 February, as the match takes place yet again on a neutral ground. Colombo will be hosting this intense clash, which is now confirmed to take place after several boycott talks.
All of the last five clashes between India and Pakistan in the T20Is have been won by the Indian team. With the match taking place in Sri Lanka, it will be intense to see whether Pakistan is able to bring a surprise or India continues its winning momentum. Both teams have started off the T20 World Cup 2026 with a win.
