India is now entering the T20 World Cup 2026 as the defending champions. No team has ever been able to win the tournament consecutively, but India has a high chance this time. Ravichandran Ashwin, a former Indian cricketer, has talked about the ideal bowling line-up of India in the tournament.
In the next few weeks, the Indian team will be playing the T20 World Cup 2026. They will be heading to the tournament as the defending champions, as the team won the last edition being undefeated throughout the tournament. But there will be a concern this time, as the two stars, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are not playing this format.
India still has a great batting strength in the T20I format, which could help them to win. However, a famous quote says, “Batters win you matches, bowlers win you tournaments.” Noting this in mind, Ravichandran Ashwin has talked about the importance of the Indian bowling line-up for the next tournament. He also suggested four players who would be enough to help India win.
1. Ashwin Picks Ideal Bowling Line-up
Ravichandran Ashwin talked about the bowlers who would make the Indian team unbeatable in the tournament. He has chosen India's main bowling line-up of four players. These include Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav, and Varun Chakravarthy. He also paid emphasis on the fact that the bowlers should be given more priority, rather than having an extra batting option.
Ashwin said, “You know Kuldeep Yadav, Varun Chakaravarthy, Jasprit Bumrah, and Arshdeep in your line-up. Why do you want to drop these four bowlers? You have Axar and Hardik as well. We have six bowling options. Why are you worried then? We can lose having eight batters and six bowlers also. We can lose with seven batters and four bowlers also. Winning and losing are not associated here. We won the T20 World Cup because of our bowling attack. Remember that. Back the bowling. We have good bowlers.”
He also said that having these four bowlers together in the team would create a deadly combination. Along with that, Ashwin was clear with his words that India should not play with a line-up which gives batting depth but takes away the bowling options available to the team. Fans can watch the video of the same, which is posted by Ashwin on his YouTube channel.
Ashwin also talked about this bowling line-up, as he said, “There are very few batters in today's T20 landscape who can read Kuldeep and Varun. Batters who can properly hit Bumrah are very few. Bowlers with brains like Arshdeep who can swing the ball and do well at the death as well, and back themselves are very few. If there is an opportunity, I will play my best four bowlers. You give this team to anyone in the world, and they will play these four.”
Arshdeep Singh and Jasprit Bumrah are among the only bowlers to have crossed 100 T20I wickets for the Indian team. Along with that, Kuldeep Yadav and Varun Chakravarthy remain as one of the finest spinners in the shortest format of the game. Hardik Pandya and Axar Patel would easily provide the team with an extra bowling option in the playing XI, creating a great bowling line-up.
2. Ashwin Speaks on Badoni Selection
In his video, Ravichandran Ashwin also spoke on another topic which has taken over the internet by a storm. And this was related to the selection of Ayush Badoni to the Indian team. Badoni came in as a replacement for Washington Sundar, who got injured in the first ODI against New Zealand. He also remains doubtful for the T20 World Cup.
Ashwin said, “People have spoken a lot that Harshit Rana has got a lot of backing. But the talent has been seen clearly. If he is not performing on a day, that can be debated. But look today, he is one of your frontline bowlers, and he looks primed to go to South Africa. So we must not decide things early. These are all our players. Ayush Badoni has a lot of skill. He has performed to come here. You can't say he has come without performance.”
It still remains unclear whether Ayush Badoni will be given his maiden ODI cap in the final ODI of the series or not. Once again, India will be playing a series decider game, which might be a bit pressurising for the team to decide on his debut. Still, it should be noted that Badoni has been able to deliver well with the ball in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, remaining economical.
