This allows Rohit Sharma to be the 41st cricketer to receive this award. Ravichandran Ashwin, who retired from all formats in December 2024, was the last cricketer to get this award. And this time, it is not just the Hitman who has entered the list, it has another name. And she is the Captain of India Women's team, Harmanpreet Kaur.
1. Rohit Gets Padma Shri
The former Indian captain, Rohit Sharma, has been honoured with Padma Shri. He led the Indian team to win the T20 World Cup 2024 and also the Champions Trophy 2025. No other Indian captain has been able to win two consecutive ICC trophies for the team.
It all started with the World Cup 2023, where India remained undefeated till the final. But they fell short against Australia as the Aussies won the game by 6 wickets. The Hitman was broken by this loss, so he decided to answer back by bringing home two ICC trophies under his captaincy.

2. When Will Rohit be Honoured?
Although Rohit Sharma has been announced with the Padma Shri award, he has not received the honour right now. This ceremony will take place in March or April at the Rashtrapati Bhawan. And this will also be the time when the Hitman will receive one of the highest honours by an Indian player. Fans will also be able to watch him receive the honours through the Indian news channels.
3. Harmanpreet Kaur Also Honoured
This time it will be two Indian cricketers who will be honoured with the Padma Shri award. And it is Harmanpreet Kaur, who joins Rohit Sharma in the list. She has been one of the finest captains in the history of India Women's team, creating records which no other player had ever done in their stint.

Despite being the hosts, India just managed to reach the playoffs of the tournament by finishing at the 4th position. Later in the semi-final, India went against Australia for a spot in the final clash. Harmanpreet Kaur went on to score 89 runs off 88 balls in this game, which played a crucial role for the team to grab a win.
Later in the final match against South Africa, India was able to script history by winning the game by 52 runs. India scored 298 runs, while the captain managed to put just 20 runs on the board. But she took the last catch of the tournament, dismissing Nadine de Klerk, as India lifted its first ever Women's World Cup.
