It is a moment for joy for the MI fans, as their team has finally started the tournament with a win. Since the IPL 2013 edition, they lost each and every IPL opener till the last edition. But as the IPL 2026 started, Mumbai Indians decided to break their jinx of not winning the IPL openers.

Mumbai Indians went against Kolkata Knight Riders in the second match of the tournament. Batting first, KKR went on to score 220 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in 20 overs. Ajinkya Rahane and Angkrish Raghuvanshi made half-centuries, as Shardul Thakur took 3 wickets for Mumbai Indians.

The target was huge, but Mumbai Indians went on to chase it down with ease. Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton smashed half-centuries, bringing up an opening stand of 148 runs. The remainder was done by Hardik Pandya, Tilak Varma, and Suryakumar Yadav, leading Mumbai to the win.

Here's how fans on Twitter have reacted to Mumbai's win.

1st Match Rule

MI fans have noticed that the team didn't win the trophy whenever it won the opening game. But it may be possible that MI tries to break its 1st match rule also.

Before GTA 6

When Mumbai Indians last won an IPL opener, even GTA V was not released. But now they have managed to win an opening game before GTA 6 gets released.

Same Energy

Mumbai Indians were unable to win against the other teams in an IPL opener since 2012. But against KKR, they managed to do it with ease. Must be a moment not to cherish for the KKR fans.
