Austrian Daredevils

The Austrian Daredevils is a young team and a very recent addition to the European Cricket Series, Austria from the 2023 season, which is a T10 tournament. This was only their first season and they still have a lot of unknown areas to unfold. The team is a talented one with players coming from all over Austria. Their most recent and only squad to date consists of Abdullah Safi, Ajmal Oryakhil, Buset Omari, Ebad Rahman, Naqi Jaffry, Narendra Polasam, Paygham Omari, Rafiullah Mandozai, Shahid Abed, Shaheen Mahmood, Shawkat Zadran, Tariq Ahmadzai, Waliullah Mandozai, Zaherullah Jabarkhel and lastly Zain Jaffry. In the only season they played, they could not outperform the 10 other teams also in the same tournament. The Daredevils ended the season at the 9th spot on the points table, as a result of which they were unable to find a way to the knockout stage. The team is owned and managed by the Austrian Cricket Association which was founded in 1981 and is also an affiliate member of the International Cricket Council. Austrian Daredevils is one of the 13 teams under the ACA.

Performance in the ECS 2023 season

As for the performance of the Austrian Daredevils, it was quite average and was unable to meet the expectations of the team owners and the supporters in the 2023 season.

They started off their journey as a team in the second match of the tournament against SNASY. Their first match was a win in the chase, by 6 wickets. This much-needed win in their very first match gave them the zeal to move further ahead in the tournament.

The fourth match of the season was the second for ADD. This time they faced Vienna CC. Even after a good start they fell short of the target by 20 runs and lost the match. Their next encounter was against Cricketer CC, where they again failed to score the winning runs and lost by a close margin. After two consecutive losses, they were desperate to claim their position in the tournament, but somehow could not find the correct way to do so.

After a short pause, their next match was against Vienna Eagles, which again ended in a defeat for the Austrian Daredevils as they refrained from the target by just 4 runs. Then they faced the Pak Riders, even with a different opponent the results were no different. They were defeated again by 8 wickets. After back-to-back losses they had almost no urge left in them, low in confidence, they went into their next match against Donaustadt. The results were crushing and also very heartbreaking for the entire team and management as they lost the match by a massive margin of 41 runs.

It was looking difficult for the Austrian Daredevils to come back to the game at this point of the tournament, but the team kept on fighting. In their next match as well, they could not find a victory and lost by 76 runs against Austrian Cricket Tigers. They failed to come back to the winning side in their following match as well where they faced the Graz Cricket Academy. At the later stage of the tournament, they finally managed to come back to the winning side as they emerged victorious against Vienna Danube. The match was reduced to only 3 overs under the DLS method due to heavy rains, the Daredevils reached the target of 16 runs in just 3 balls and pulled out the match by 10 wickets.

Their next match was all set to be against the Indian Vienna but unfortunately was abandoned with just 1.3 overs of play. This was the end of the group stage and also the tournament for them as they could not advance to the knockout stage owing to their position on the points table with just 5 points from 10 matches consisting of 2 wins, 7 losses, and 1 match being abandoned. They will look to come back a lot stronger and more experienced than ever before.

Though they faltered in the season, they showed a glimpse of their brilliance on the 22 yards with outstanding batting and bowling figures.
