Alexis Sanchez scored a stunning brace to help Arsenal beat Sunderland 2-0 to keep their Champions League hopes alive. Elsewhere, Manchester City thumped West Bromwich Albion 3-1 to move to the third place with one game remaining to complete their English Premier League season.

Arsenal 2 - 0 Sunderland

Arsene Wenger's men were able to create several chances at Emirates Stadium but failed to score past the impressive Jordan Pickford. After a goalless first half, Alexis Sanchez upped his game and tapped in Mesut Ozil's square pass to give the hosts a 1-0 lead with 18 minutes left on the clock. He struck again in the 81st minute by bundling in Olivier Giroud's cut-back.

The Gunners find themselves trailing fourth-placed Liverpool by one point heading into their final game of the season against Everton and will still qualify for the Champions League if they beat Everton and Liverpool draw with or lose to Middlesbrough on Sunday.

Manchester City 3 - 1 West Bromwich Albion

Manchester City closed in on a top-four spot in the farewell match of club great Pablo Zabaleta at the Etihad Stadium. A Sergio Aguero flick helped Kevin de Bruyne to burst into the left-hand side of the area and squared the ball to give Gabriel Jesus an easy tap-in. De Bruyne scored the second goal in the 29th minute while Yaya Toure made it 3-0 in the 57th minute.

West Brom scored a consolation goal through substitute Hal Robson-Kanu, who turned in an Allan Nyom low cross.

"It is in our hands to finish third so it is the best thing. To finish in front of Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool, it means a lot. Maybe next season hopefully we can do better," City boss Pep Guardiola said.
