Kerala Blasters’ new signing, Anas Edathodika has called out to the fans stating that they should be more understanding about the situation and support the team throughout. The Blasters had failed to live up to the expectations last season after they failed to qualify for the knockouts.

The fans of the ISL team Kerala Blasters have filled up the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Kochi for every home game expecting their side to get their hands on the coveted title. The Blasters have reached the final twice, in 2014 and 2016, losing to ATK both the times. Their form further deteriorated this season after they lost to Bengaluru FC in group stages.

Consequently, the players are now facing supporters abusing the players and their families. 31-year-old Edathodika has found it difficult to digest the whole situation and has criticized the fans pointing out that the fans are not it right.

“We play every match to win it. What the fans are doing is completely wrong. They do not understand how much it affects us. It creates a negative mindset towards the game and the player starts overthinking,” said Anas.

“Kerala fans should understand that this drought will never last forever. Win and loss are two sides of a coin.”

Anas, who has played in the ISL for a couple of teams like Delhi Dynamos and Jamshedpur FC, spoke about the times when he felt like replying back to the hate comments that he used to receive.

“There have been times when I felt like reacting in such situations. I felt helpless as I knew there is no point in doing so as most of the profiles are fake,” revealed Anas.

The highly-rated footballer, who has played alongside greats like Roberto Carlos and Florent Malouda, has still rated the Blasters fan-base as the best in the world and said that many players have expressed their desire to play for the Blasters.

“Roberto Carlos once revealed that he felt like he was playing for the Brazilian side looking at the gallery filled with yellow jerseys. Malouda and Marcelinho wanted to play for this team solely because of the fans,” Anas added.
