Alisson Becker ruled out for weeks with injury
Liverpool’s Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson Becker has been ruled out with a calf injury 'for the next few weeks'. The Liverpool number one picked up the injury during Liverpool’s season opener against Norwich City on Friday night where the Reds comfortably beat the visitors with a 4-1 victory at home.
Liverpool star Alisson was forced to leave the field just after 39 minutes, during the Premier League opener. He was replaced by new signing Adrian, who only conceded a single goal for the Reds.
"It's not too cool," said Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp during the post match press conference. "It's a calf injury which takes Alisson out for a while. I don't want to make now an exact prognosis on when he will be back - it takes a couple weeks for sure, and we have to see.
“I saw already like 'six weeks' and stuff like this, but Ali was not a lot injured in his career so I would like to wait a little bit to see how he develops in that process now, but he is not in for the next few weeks." he further added.
Last season, Alisson played a key role in both Liverpool’s Champions League campaign and their Premier League one. The shot stopper was an immense presence in goal, which eventually helped Liverpool win the Champions League. It also saw the Brazilian win the Premier League’s Golden Glove, edging out Manchester City star Ederson.
The Reds are on the verge of signing veteran Andy Lonergan on a short-term deal, as a backup plan. It is expected that Lonergan will be seen on the bench against Chelsea in the Super Cup match.
