FC Goa head coach Sergio Lobera has stated that thinking about finishing at the top of the table and forgetting how to achieve it will only add pressure to the players. He has also mentioned that his team had improved overall and attributed it to having struck a balance throughout the tournament.

Sergio Lobera has led FC Goa to the second position on the points table of the ISL 2018-19. The team is well placed and is just a game or two away from making it to the playoffs. However, the coach doesn’t seem to be complacent as he looks to gather the three points to qualify for the final part of the tournament.

"My feeling is that we are going to face a very good squad. I think they have great players and they look completely different with their new coach. I’m sure if we are not at our 100%, we cannot win the three points. Tomorrow if we get a victory, we will have one spot in the play-offs and depending on our performances, we can also finish at top of the table," he said at the pre-match press conference, reported the ISL Media.

The Spaniard had also pleasantly admitted that the players had worked hard on the weakness and improved their defense and added that the team had tried to keep a balance throughout the tournament and that helped in achieving things.

"I think we have improved the defence. Also, I think it was important to improve in terms of performance of the team. I think during the season, every team go through different moments, but we have tried to keep a balance. The feeling I’m getting is positive because of the way we are achieving things. The team regardless of Pena and Fall have improved defensively," he stated.

Lobera had asserted the significance of taking one match at a time and focusing on the process rather than on the destiny. He strongly believed that thinking about getting to the top of the table would only add unnecessary pressure to the players, but it was more important to keep the players motivated.

"I think what we have to do is be focused on how to do things rather than on what we are going to achieve. I think if we keep thinking in our heads about how we will make it to the top of the table or second, at that time, we would be forgetting how we will achieve it. I think you don’t have to add pressure to the players. You have to keep them motivated, " Lobera concluded.
