Reports | Jamshedpur FC to sign Spanish midfield maestro Aitor Monroy
The Jamshedpur-based franchise has been reportedly tracking Spanish midfielder Aitor Monroy and would reportedly seal his service in the coming days to properly replace Sergio Cidoncha. Monroy, if signed, would become the fifth Spaniard in the squad of JFC under Cesar Ferrando’s management.
Despite having one of the best turn ups in Indian Super League matches, JFC have been quite average in their results so far, in their two years in the league. Both the times they could finish fifth on the table under two separate managers, and have lost their star players on both the occasions as well.
With the likes of Mario Arques, Sergio Cindoncha and others leaving the club after an encouraging season last time, the club has reportedly been eyeing 31-year-old midfielder Monroy, Goal has reported.
Starting his senior career in the reserve teams of Atletico Madrid back in 2005, Monroy came up the ranks of Atletico C before he got promoted into to Atletico B after two years. It took him until 2011 before he could make his first professional appearance, which was in Romania’s top tier league with FC Ceahlăul Piatra Neamț.
He moved to a more prominent CFR Cluj in 2014 but couldn’t stay for more than nine months owing to issues over unpaid wages. However, during these nine months, Monroy played all the four matches of the Europa League qualifiers, gaining crucial experience.
His next stint was with Moldovian club FC Sheriff Tiraspol, where he won the Moldovian Cup, which has been his career’s biggest highlight. He retrined to his hometown following that and has been playing for Inter de Madrid since then, making 17 appearances.
However, with his contract with the third-tier club ending on June 30, he has apparently decided to join Jamshedpur FC and would be in line with a line of Spaniards in the club like Tiri, Carlos Calvo, Francisco Medina Luna and Noe Acosta.
