Real Madrid star Marco Asensio could miss the entirety of the upcoming season after the Spanish international was stretchered off during a pre-season friendly. The 23-year-old had just scored the equaliser in a 2-2 draw against Arsenal and looked bright after coming on at half time.

Real Madrid’s new generation could be in trouble even before the season starts with the Mirror reporting that Marco Asensio could be out for the season. The 23-year-old had to be stretchered off the pitch less than 20 minutes after he walked on. The initial reports are that Asensio has hurt his knee, with manager Zinedine Zidane confirming that the same.

“We're a little worried (by Asensio),” Zidane revealed. "It's the knee. He went straight to the hospital to get tested and see. But it looks bad. It's the bad thing of the day for us. because we lose a player and we are a little touched, yes.”

While Real Madrid are yet to confirm the full extent of the Spaniard’s injuries, reports from Spain have confirmed that the young forward has ruptured his ACL in his left knee. That will see him miss the entire 2019/20 season and in turn could scupper Arsenal’s move for Dani Ceballos, as the injury would leave Real Madrid short in midfield.

The Gunners are closing in on a season-long loan spell for the midfielder, but Asensio’s injury changes things. “I don’t know,” Emery said when asked if the injury could hurt a deal for Ceballos. “Really our target in the match was not to take injuries and they have maybe a big injury with Asensio, it’s bad news for them and also for us. I don’t know if it can change something.”
