ISL 2019 | Sergio Cidoncha leaves Jamshedpur FC to sign with Kerala Blasters
Spanish midfielder Sergio Cidoncha has entered into a contract with Kerala Blasters for the upcoming season of the ISL after helping Jamshedpur finish fifth in the league last season. Having been brought up in Atletico Madrid’s lower-tier teams, he is the club’s third signing of the season.
After a fairly successful 2018-19 season with Jamshedpur FC which, saw him end with three goals and three assists from 12 appearances, the attacking midfielder has made his move to Kerala Blasters as the club attempt to rebuild the team after a dismal last season that saw them finish second last on the table.
The 28-year-old had spent all his career in Spain, playing for the likes of Real Zaragoza, Albacete and Atletico Madrid B before finally making the move to India at the beginning of last season.
Sergio Cidoncha is now a Blaster! 🤩

He will bolster the club’s attacking options, who have already scooped up from NorthEast United FC their coach Eelco Schattorie, assistant coach Shaun Ontong and record goalscorer Bartholomew Ogbeche. Cidoncha’s former teammate Mario Arques had already made the move from Jamshedpur to the Blasters too.
The South Indian team has been a part of the league for all of its five seasons and has had a great record too, finishing as runners up twice. Their 9th place finish was a record low for them in their brief history and hence the renowned Spanish is the latest effort by the owners to reinstate the club as one of India’s best.
