Carles Cuadrat singled out his praise for Indian defenders Nishu Kumar, Rahul Bheke and Harmanjot Khabra after his side Bengaluru FC’s hard fought victory against FC Goa. He also spoke about his strategy to play offensive, which was a risky decision, but eventually worked in his favour.

Bengaluru FC had won the Super Cup last year before they went on to miss out on the Indian Super League Trophy in the final as they went down to Chennaiyin. However, that was achieved this time with Carles Cuadrat managing to redeem the side with a victory. And the coach has been of the opinion that his defenders made the difference in a match, which seemed to end with a penalty shootout.

After Ahmed Jahouh was sent off in the first half of the extra time with two yellow cards, 28-year-old Rahul Bheke scored a header in the 116th minute to seal the match for the Blues. And Cuadrat heaped praise to the Indian core at the back for the result.

"It was a risky decision to play with that defence because Albert Serran had been central for us. He has done a lot for us. So, the rest of the guys have been learning a lot from him. I have to be very proud of the Indian players especially Nishu Kumar, Rahul Bheke and Harmanjot Khabra. We decided to go for an offensive game. We have to be very happy,"  said the 50-year-old, reported ISL’s official website.

Former Spanish footballer Albert Roca was the coach of the team for the previous two seasons after he which resigned citing personal reasons. And Cuadrat, Roca’s assistant coach previously, stated that the team had put their faith in him from the moment he came on board, and vice versa.

"I think that we have a deal with the players. It was clear from the first moment. I am the coach of Bengaluru because they have the feeling that I can do things in the right way. So, when Albert Roca decided not to work because of the family issue, the players said that Carles can do the job. From the first day, I have been demanding a lot from them," he stated.
