Report | Arsenal preparing to launch bid for James Rodriguez
Arsenal are willing to launch an offer for Real Madrid playmaker James Rodriguez in the January window with the Gunners looking for reinforcements. The North London side are willing to offer €42 million for the Colombian but Los Blancos president Florentino Perez has set a €50 million price tag.
According to Spanish media source Eldesmarque, Arsenal wants to sign midfielder James Rodriguez from Real Madrid with the Gunners ready to offer as much as €42 million to the Spanish Giants for the Columbian. The North Londoners are looking for an apt replacement for Mesut Ozil who has lost the charm he once had at the club and believe that Rodriguez is their man.
Other clubs like Atletico Madrid and Napoli also enquired about the former Monaco player in the summer transfer window but their offers were rejected by the Los Blancos. However, the offer from Arsenal exceeds the offers that were made by the Italians and the city rivals but Florentino Perez is holding out onto €50 million evaluation that he has set for the Colombian midfielder.
Rodriguez joined Real Madrid after the 2014 World Cup but soon was out of favour under Zinedine Zidane and was sent on a two year loan spell to German champions Bayern Munich. The Bavarians had an offer to make the deal permanent for a modest fee of €35 million but decided to act against the offer and allowed James to return to Madrid.
However, reports have indicated that Rodriguez does not want to leave in January and prefers to wait for the summer market, as this will not precipitate and will have more offers. The Colombian international is convinced that Copa America will see his market value shoot up a lot and this will allow him to choose his destiny without Real Madrid putting obstacles.
The former AS Monaco midfielder is convinced that he can finish at Inter Milan or Paris Saint Germain, two destinations that convince him more than Arsenal, a team that he rejected some time ago because of their irregularity in playing the Champions League. The 28-year-old has played just 9 games for the 13 time UCL winners this term and has found it difficult to break into the starting lineup.
