I will not leave Ajax in January, admits Donny van de Beek
Donny van de Beek has been a top target for Zinedine Zidane's squad for quite some time. During the summer there were reports that the Dutch international was close to a move to Santiago Bernabeu, but ultimately, the deal couldn't materialise with Real Madrid refusing to meet Ajax's demands.
The 22-year-old has been linked to Real Madrid again in the last few days, according to Goal, but the player won't commit on a move in the middle of the season. One of the goalscorers last night for Ajax against Valencia at Mestalla, Van de Beek prefers to finish the season on a high note for his home club. Only then, if any interesting proposal comes for both parties, he will give some thought about it.
"I don't want to leave during the winter break. I play here all season, I finish at Ajax this year. That gives me clarity and tranquillity. I will see what happens next. Maybe someday in my career it will happen that I switch club during the winter break, but now I don't like it," de Beek stated to reporters.
The young midfielder was heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid over the summer but opted to stay at Ajax despite reports indicating that the move was all but done and dusted. Now Van de Beek has admitted that Netherlands and Spain powerhouses had talks about a possible move during the summer but the transfer saga took far too long.
"At a certain point [the transfer saga] all took too long. There were so many rumours and so much was said and written. If you keep being on all those front pages, you will see it anyway" It's safe to say that this season we'll see Donny van de Beek only with an Ajax shirt on.
