Manchester United not in the 90s anymore, says Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says the team is in 'a different era' and accepts there will be more 'ups and downs' as he tries to build a team capable of challenging on all fronts. United have struggled to secure points from games and this has lead fans to criticize the players.
Manchester United have endured the worst possible start to the Premier League campaign in the past 30 years although Ole Gunnar Solskjaer feels his side can turn it around. Under Sir Alex Ferguson United never finished below the third position and ever since his retirement, United have only achieved a better position once in 2017-18 season under Jose Mourinho. While speaking to Sky Sports, the Norwegian said that United has entered a new era and things won't be easy.
"We're not in the 90s now so it's a different era, a different group that we're building. We know there are going to be ups and downs. I don't know what opponents think of us. I just know that sometimes when you walk off games we're not doing bad. Sometimes there's a gap. I've felt that a couple of times but not very often. I can't think about what anyone else is thinking about us. We're working to improve and that's what we have to do," said the former Molde manager reports Sky Sports.
United also suffered an embarrassing draw against AZ Alkmaar where they failed to get a single shot on target. Despite that Solskjaer deserves some credit for infusing academy players in the starting line up as he remains confident that his team will reach greater heights soon. The Red Devils travel to Newcastle as they prepare to face Steve Bruce’s team who lie second from bottom in the league table.
“I'm ready to see these boys blossom. There are not many clubs with our stature that play the young players that we do. They'll have a chance to come through and we're sure that some of these will be part of a successful team," concluded Solskjaer.
