Napoli midfielder Fabian Ruiz believes that Spain deserved to win against Norway after putting in a valiant performance in Oslo as the game ended in 1-1 draw. Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez’s 47th-minute goal effort was cancelled by a 94th-minute penalty from Bournemouth’s Joshua King.

Spain failed to secure all the three points against Norway in their Euro 2020 qualifier where a win would have ensured Euro 2020 qualification. Fabian Ruiz hit the woodwork twice but couldn’t get the ball past the goal line. Saul Niguez scored for the 2010 World champions but all went in vain. Ruiz believes they had done enough and was disappointed to have drawn.

“We knew it was going to be a very difficult game, but we did a good job and deserved to win it. We had chances, but in the end we could not do it,” Ruiz told to TVE.

The 23-year-old midfielder has attracted a lot of interest from Real Madrid and Barcelona. Barcelona and technical director of Barcelona Eric Abidal also went on to scout the Spaniard. Ruiz suits Barcelona’s style and could add a lot of technical quality to a midfield that already boasts Frenkie De Jong, Arthur and Sergio Busquets. Ruiz was suffering from illness in the midweek and despite missing training session due to illness, he had a very good game.

Goalscorer Saul Niguez also spoke after the match and the midfielder reflected on what could have been after his side gave away a late penalty. The penalty was awarded to Norway in the 94th minute due to goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga’s challenge which also earned him a yellow card. Spain, who sit at the top with 19 points now take on Sweden on Tuesday in Stockholm.
