La Liga has become a lot tougher this season, admits Marcelo
Real Madrid superstar Marcelo has admitted that Spanish league has become a lot tougher this season. The Los Blancos have done relatively well in the La Liga but still suffered a stunning loss to 18th place Mallorca a win that ended their unbeaten run and allowed Barcelona to leap-frog over them.
The Los Blancos crashed to their first defeat of the league after Zinedine Zidane’s side were beaten by Real Mallorca on Saturday. The then 18th place side, who now moved up to the four places, walked into the fixture with just one win in their last five games and faced an uphill challenge against a Real Madrid side that looked good in the league.
However, Lago Junior’s early strike meant that Mallorca would walk away with all three points and hand Real Madrid their first loss. But the loss meant so much more as it allowed Barcelona to leapfrog over Real Madrid and take a one-point lead atop the table.
The two sides have played the same number of games but with the Camp Nou side losing two games already it did give Real Madrid a chance to increase their lead, a chance that Zidane. In an interview after the game, Marcelo went on to admit that the league has now changed and it’s become a lot tougher for teams to simply win. The Brazilian added further that Real Madrid did not play to the final whistle and lacked that winning attitude to beat anyone on Saturday, which needs to change before their Champions League fixtures.
"We lost but we must keep going. It hurts to lose because we played well, but we conceded early on and then looked to make our comeback but it was not possible. We did not have time to think, they scored a goal and they defended and waited for the counter, that's no excuse though," said Marcelo reports Goal.
"We need to play well until the final whistle. We have won some games while lacking something. We're trying to do everything possible to win but La Liga is tough these days,” concluded the Brazilian.
