ISL 2019-20 | It’s not all about winning, states Antonio Iriondo
Ahead of their opening fixture in the sixth ISL season against Odisha FC, Jamshedpur FC coach Antonio Iriondo has asserted that everything is not about winning and he wants his team to deserve the win. The Spanish coach has also highlighted the importance of winning the first game of a season.
Two neighbouring teams in the eastern part of the country – Jamshedpur FC and Odisha FC will be up against each other this evening at the JRD TATA Sports Complex in Jamshedpur. Jamshedpur’s new coach from Spain, Antonio Iriondo, is looking forward to getting a good start in his new innings as the coach of the team from Jharkhand.
While addressing reporters ahead of their first game against Odisha, Iriondo talked about their preparations for the new ISL season. He also said that the result is not everything and apart from winning a game, he is more focussed on the team deserving that win.
"The goal of the first match is to win, but it’s not all about winning. We want to deserve that win. What we are working on in the last month and a half is to get the players to understand how we want to play, and enable them to take their own decisions. That process is not easy. We hope that we can achieve something similar. Winning the first match is always important for the players. We hope they are ready to make their own decisions," Iriondo told reporters.
"I want to live in the present. I want to think in the moment, in the present. One of the most important things is to give our best in every training session and in every match. So, there is no pressure."
The Men of Steel have always received great support from their fans not only at home but in away games as well. The Spaniard stressed on making the JFC fans happy and make them fall in the style in which they play.
"I know that we have a good fanbase. The most important thing is to make them as happy as we can. It’s not only about the results or winning and losing; it’s also about making them fall in love with our style of play. We need to make sure they can enjoy every time they come to the stadium. The team is always going to give it’s 100%. We hope that we can make them happy and win every match," the JFC coach explained.
Midfielder CK Vineeth, who joined Jamshedpur this season after playing for Kerala Blasters in the last season, talked about adjusting in a new team. He was impressed with the facilities and the ground in Jamshedpur.
“Everything about football in Jamshedpur is great, the facilities, the ground. I believe it’s one of the best in the country. They have almost everything here. They have their own ground," Vineeth said.
"Like every team wants to win the cup, Jamshedpur also wants to win the cup. We will try to go as far as we can go. In the end, we all want to give the trophy to the Jamshedpur fans.”
