We are here to break top four dominance, asserts Ben Chilwell
Leicester City full-back Ben Chilwell was on target in a stunning game at St Mary's Stadium and has claimed that the Foxes are here to break the top four’s dominance on the league. The Foxes stunned Southampton and scored 9 goals making it the biggest away win in Premier League history.
Jamie Vardy converted an injury-time penalty which saw Leicester City match Manchester United's 24-year-old record for the biggest ever win in the Premier League as they beat Southampton 9-0 at the St Mary's Stadium. The Foxes took a 5-0 lead in the first half with Jamie Vardy and Ayoze Perez completing their hattricks in the second half to put Rodgers’ side second on the table, one point ahead of champions Manchester City but the Citizens have a game in hand.Â
That comes after reports have suggested that Leicester City will be the side to break the Big Six dominance on the league table. The Foxes have already won a Premier League title and under Rodgers, they're now looking to do something more. Ben Chilwell admitted as much and the left-back even added that while everyone expects the Foxes to slip eventually after a high flying start, they will do no such thing and are here to compete for everything.
“Everyone in the league is waiting for Leicester City to slip. It's nice to be at the top of the table, we really do want to stay there and there is confidence within the dressing room that we can stay there," he told Sky Sports.
Leicester shocked everyone in 2015-16 when they emerged as title winners having 5000-1 odds of winning the Premier League. Claudio Ranieri mastermind their fantasy title victory but was sacked the following season due to poor run of games. Even Claude Puel couldn't add much to the side and was eventually sacked with Brendan Rodgers replacing him. Since then the former Celtic boss has brought a lot of positivity and also given a glimpse of the potential that the squad has and it has seen fans believe that their club can do more.
"We push each other hard in training, the gaffer doesn't let our standards slip. It's a really good squad and we just need to keep progressing. We're here and we're here to stay at the top of the league. We just need to keep working hard," concluded the Englishman.
